So...How many times do you think about sex a day? Honestly? How often does something sexual run across your mind? Or should I say, how hard is it not to think about sex? On average, when you listen to music, it’s there. You watch the television, and it’s there. If you’re in a bigger city, there is probably a billboard soliciting sex items or sexual establishments. Right? Right.
Sex is perhaps the most controversial topic, and unfortunately the most abused and misunderstood topic ever in our generations. So many arguments and debates arise around this subject because no matter how much we like it, we - the majority - as a culture can’t agree on anything except that sex is something that we want to see, listen to, talk about and do!
Let’s face it, we’re sex-crazed. But why? What drives us to the sexual urges we have. What makes a man think about sex at least on average every hour, according to studies? And even though those same studies show women don’t think about sex that often, a slight 19% do think about it daily. Well, I by no means am a psychologist but I am a believer in the Word of God, yes the Bible; and in here I find all of my answers to the perplexing questions of life. Truth be told, there is more sex and drama in the Bible than you would imagine! I dare you to take a peek yourself. :)
The answer I found is that sex, though physical in nature, is a spiritual experience. The Bible says that when you have sex with a person, you become one with that person. Well, I don’t know about you but I’ve never been physically attached to a person after we had sex; thank God for that! Whew. I mean, think about; if every sex partner you had you all of a sudden became conjoined twins at the reproductive organs. Hmm.
So, does God not know what He’s talking about! I hope you don’t think so. In that case, what part of us becomes one flesh then? For this, we have to understand the following; We are created in the image and likeness of God - therefore we are a spirit, according to the Bible. But we were clothed with flesh. So the one that God speaks of is the oneness in our spirits - not flesh.
In other words, every person that you have sex with is spiritually connected to you; imagine now that you can see this in the physical realm. If you’ve had three partners, all of those bodies are stacked up - #bodycount. Ouch!
I submit to you the reason that sex is a big theme in this culture because of two reasons; One - the perverted nature of sex is very pleasing to our flesh. There’s something in the fleshly nature that simply likes testing the boundaries and our perverted culture doesn’t make it easy to overcome the temptation. After all, as we said before, sex is everywhere and in everything. For the sake of the length of this article, I won’t elaborate further; After all, I’m a writer so I could go on for pages! :) Two, because God created sex, called it good, and said that we should have it! Think about this, sex is the highest form of intimacy and the only natural *ahem* way to reproduce after your own kind. Come on, be honest. If you’ve ever had an orgasm you know that sex is euphoric! This is one of the main reasons why it is designed exclusively to be enjoyed in the marriage bed.
We crave sex because it’s an innate desire given to us by our Creator, to enjoy as man and woman; and reproduce. We crave sex because it’s a natural and holy desire to want pleasure, intimacy, and oneness with someone. Now why women don’t think about sex as much as men do (*insert eye roll*) is a mystery but let me tell you, sex is good and good is sex. LOL!
